What is Radius Authentication and Can I use this type of security parameter on my EnGenius EAP350?

Remote Authentication Dial-In User Service (RADIUS) is a networking protocol that provides centralized Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA or Triple A) management for users who connect and use a network service. RADIUS was developed by Livingston Enterprises, Inc. in 1991 as an access server authentication and accounting protocol and later brought into the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) standards.

Yes, you can use this networking protocol on all EnGenius access point products (i.e. models in the EAP, ECB, ENS, ENH, and EWS series), provided that you have Radius Server with Active Directory.

Topology

EAP350 Wireless Setting

Below is the AP RADIUS setting WEB page from EAP350. The RADIUS setting WEB page in other models is similar. Select WPA Mixed (or WPA RADIUS in other models) and then enter the RADIS server’s IP address (ex. 192.168.1.70) and secret (ex. 1234). Enable Radius Accounting if needed.

Client Settings

(1) EnGenius Utility

Select the AP which set to RADIUS security (ex. RADIUS) and then click [Connect].

Enter the Identity and Password (ex. test / test) in 802.1x.

Click [OK], and then connected to AP and got IP from DHCP server successfully.

(2) Windows 7

Click Start button and open Control Panel.

Click [View network status and tasks] then [Manage wireless networks].

Click [Add] to add a wireless network.

Click [Manually create a network profile].

Enter the Network name (ex. RADIUS) and select WPA2-Enterprise in Security type and AES in Encryption type, and then click [Next].

Click [Change connection settings].

Click [Settings].

Uncheck [Validate server certificate] and then click [Configure…].

Uncheck [Automatically use my Windows logon name and password] and then click [OK].

Click [Advanced settings].

Check [Specify authentication mode] and select [User authentication] and then click [Save credentials].

Enter the username and password (ex. test / test) and then click [OK].

Click [Connect] in specified AP (ex. RADIUS) and then connected to AP successfully.
