Quality of service (QoS) technology controls network traffic and allows companies to prioritize its most important applications. QoS is typically used on networks that use resource-intensive systems like gaming, streaming video, videoconferencing, and VoIP.
Qos allows organizations to review bit rates, delay, network congestion, and packet rates in order to optimize the performance of high priority applications and deliver what users have come to expect.
QoS technology includes allocating more bandwidth to data-intensive applications, controlling network congestion, and lowering latency. Qos marks packets by service type, establishes separate virtual queues in routers for critical applications to access, and assigns the order in which network packets are handled.
